Inclusion

Open House Statement of Inclusivity

The name Open House Nursery School was chosen with the deep intent to be an open and inclusive environment. From experience, we know that when children’s needs are met, all children will successfully grow and learn together. The availability of therapeutic services for a child with a demonstrated need supports progress and productive development for them individually and the entire community. Open House has been collaborating with both private and Committee for Preschool Special Education service providers for over 20 years. When family, school and service providers work as a team children make life-changing progress.

Over the years, we have also seen the benefits of inclusion for typically developing children. From daily examples, the children at Open House learn that all people have a range of strengths and challenges. Seeing others being supported encourages every child to acknowledge their own challenges, because they know they themselves will be assisted on the way to their own success. Additionally, having an opportunity to share in the helping of others allows us all feel good about our community and confident in our ability to successfully advocate for ourselves and those around us.

The experience of participating in an inclusive environment has life-long benefits. Children leave Open House with a positive sense of self and an appreciation for the uniqueness of others. We are very proud of the many creative, resourceful, persistence, flexible, kind and optimistic children who have attended Open House and are gratified in knowing they are contributing to a just and peaceful world.
